Subsequent to obtaining a first degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Management, John Lord has spent over 30 years in senior management positions in the private sector of the UK venue and sports industries including the Wembley Stadium Complex and the major indoor arenas in Manchester, Newcastle and Cardiff.

John was a founder director and Chief Executive of the original Ice Hockey Superleague following a period as Managing Director of the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey team. He was a Board Director of Cardiff Marketing Limited and Cardiff World Trade Centre Limited.

For 10 years John ran his own successful consultancy practice advising on the development of stadia and indoor arenas across the UK and overseas, as well as advising on the operation of the Stoke Mandeville Sports Complex and being involved in a number of charitable events and initiatives.

More recently John developed and delivered the highly successful Events Management undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes at UWIC (now Cardiff Metropolitan University).

Now retired, John is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Perthyn – one of the largest social care charities in Wales with some 800 employees and an annual turnover of over £17million. He has lived in South Wales for nearly 30 years and joins the Council of Management of George Thomas Hospice Care hoping in particular to assist with the development of the income generation programmes.
