Is there a minimum age?

At present, we welcome volunteers from age 16.  Some of our roles have other minimum age requirements for example patient drivers must be aged 21 or over. There is no maximum age limit.

Why are some of the roles not available?

We advertise our current opportunities based on our service needs at a particular time. For some roles there is a limit to the numbers required and therefore spaces may only open up when an existing volunteer leaves.  The roles within our hospice centre itself are very popular and consequently, we do not often advertise these roles.  Check back on our Current Vacancies page as this is updated regularly.

Will volunteering affect my benefits?

The latest guidance from the National Council for Voluntary Organisation can be found here.

Do you pay expenses?

Agreed travel expenses are paid.

Do I need references?

Yes. We require the contact details of two referees on your application form that we can contact to provide written references.  These must have known you for at least two years and not be family members.  They do not have to be 'professional' i.e. employers, they can be friends and neighbours.

Is there a minimum time commitment?

This depends on the role.  Some are completely flexible, for others there is set day and time required (for example, our volunteer drivers transporting patients to a day group). We have one off opportunities such as marshalling a fun run or longer term regular weekly/monthly opportunities.

I have a criminal record, can I volunteer?

Some roles require a DBS (formally called CRB) check.  If you are applying for a role that requires this check we will discuss this with you and make a decision on a case-by-case basis.

Can I volunteer if I have recently been bereaved?

We appreciate that 'giving something back' in the right role following a bereavement can be very positive. Please contact us to explore available opportunities.

We try to be as flexible as possible and will talk to you to arrange the times you are available. For some roles the times are fixed and in these cases we would like a commitment to these.  - See more at: http://www.norfolkhospice.org.uk/pages/volunteering/volunteering-faqs.php#sthash.7lYctph6.dpuf
